Online technology specialists, Healthcode, have been judged IT innovator of the year at this year’s HealthInvestor Awards which celebrate excellence in the independent healthcare sector. Healthcode was also a shortlisted finalist in the technology provider of the year category at the virtual awards ceremony on 15 October.

The IT innovator of the year award recognises companies that find new ways to use technology to improve efficiency, drive user engagement and support business goals. The judging panel was particularly impressed by Healthcode’s smart evolution of The Private Practice Register (The PPR), its online information hub for the independent sector.

Vernon Baxter, Health Investor’s Managing Director said: “Already a well-established service provider, the judges felt that Healthcode has continued to innovate with an expanding suite of enterprise solutions and a rock-solid delivery platform. Healthcode’s Private Practice Register is a model of best practice in the scoping and execution of new interoperable platform-based services.”

Originally developed to streamline the cumbersome PMI recognition process, The PPR platform now securely connects more than 20,000 practitioners, more than 300 private hospitals and the major PMIs, supporting efficient and secure information-sharing and effective clinical governance.

Healthcode continues to collaborate closely with the independent healthcare sector to further enhance The PPR so the resource meets their needs. For example, it is working to align the data held on practitioners’ profiles with the information requirements of the Medical Practitioners Assurance Framework (MPAF), as well as introducing time-saving automated features, in order to make regulatory compliance easier and reduce administration.

Healthcode Managing Director, Peter Connor: “I’m delighted to accept this HealthInvestor award, especially as it is a fitting way for Healthcode to celebrate 20 years in business. Over that time, we have developed applications for our interoperable online technology that help organisations operate more effectively; exchange sensitive data securely and efficiently; and address some of the challenges facing the sector surrounding data accuracy and clinical governance.

“I continue to believe that online technology is a game changer for the healthcare sector and Healthcode have a responsibility to use our expertise for the common good. The PPR exemplifies this approach, encouraging sector-wide collaboration in order to improve data accuracy, streamline working methods and enhance patient safety. The PPR may be Healthcode’s most ambitious project to date but we will continue to develop innovative solutions in the interests of healthcare providers and their patients.”
